🌱 Growing & Products

A sterilised spawn bag is a bag of substrate (grain or bulk mix) that has been professionally sterilised to remove all competing organisms. You inoculate it with your own liquid culture or spores through the injection port, then wait for mycelium to colonise the substrate before fruiting.
An injection port is a self-sealing silicone disc on the bag that lets you inject liquid culture or spores without opening the bag. The port seals itself when you remove the needle, keeping the bag sterile throughout the inoculation process.

We offer three substrates:

  • Millet grain — fast colonisation, great for beginners
  • Corn grain — denser mycelium, heavier yields
  • CVG (coco coir, vermiculite, gypsum) — bulk fruiting substrate
All three substrate bags are available in 2000ml and 4000ml.

Our grain bags (millet and corn) work with any species that colonises grain — including Psilocybe cubensis varieties, lion's mane, oyster, shiitake, reishi, and most other gourmet and medicinal species.

Our CVG bags work best for Psilocybe cubensis and most gourmet species. CVG is not recommended for wood-loving species like P. azurescens or lion's mane — these need a hardwood-based substrate.

No. Our bags arrive fully sterilised and sealed. You just inoculate through the injection port. No special equipment needed.
Yes — our bags are uninoculated substrate. You supply the genetics. We sell a wide range of liquid culture syringes for gourmet, medicinal, and cubensis strains if you need one.
Liquid culture contains active, living mycelium — it colonises faster and more reliably. A spore syringe contains dormant spores that need to germinate first. Liquid culture is recommended for beginners and anyone who wants the most reliable results.
  • Millet + liquid culture: 2–3 weeks
  • Corn + liquid culture: 3–4 weeks
  • Spore syringe: add 1–2 weeks to the above

Temperature is the biggest variable. Colonisation slows significantly below 18°C.

The most common causes are low temperature, failed inoculation technique, or contamination. See our full troubleshooting guide: Why Is My Spawn Bag Not Colonising?
Healthy mycelium is bright white and fluffy. Yellow or brown liquid pooling in the bag is normal metabolite secretion — not contamination. Green, black, pink, or yellow patches are signs of contamination.
Store unopened bags at room temperature, away from direct sunlight. No refrigeration needed. Use within a few months for best results.
